Dr Alan J Reynolds, Reader, Deputy Director

Dr Reynolds specializes in the interactions of metal ions and biological cells in animals and plants.  In addition to TEM, FTIR and SEM analysis, Alan is also responsible for quality control and accreditation.

Dr Benjamin J Jones, Lecturer, Research Co-ordinator

Ben Jones is a materials scientist with background in physics and engineering of electronic materials.  Dr Jones is responsible for organizing the research activities of the Centre, and leads the forensic science and carbon materials research groups.

Nita Verma, Senior Analyst

Nita Verma is a chemist who takes an active role in microscopy and surface analysis of samples from industry and universities.

Daksha Parekh, Business Manager

Daksha runs the administration of the centre, organizes our finance, space and bookings and is generally the first point of contact.

Lorna Anguilano, Research Fellow - X-Ray Analysis

A material scientist with an interest in archaeometallurgy and a background in mineralogy and crystallography, Lorna’s main role is the establishment of the XRD service, and materials and archaeometric analyses.

Dr Jesús J Ojeda, Lecturer

Jesús Ojeda specializes in surface science, particularly SIMS and XPS.  His research work includes studies of cell interactions with surface, nanoparticles and radioactive waste.

Professor Tony Anson, Associate Professor

Tony Anson is a biomedical engineer and entrepreneur, and leads the MSc Biomedical Engineering module on biomaterials and biomechanics.  Prof Anson has founded several start-up companies and is a director of Renishaw Advanced Materials, through which he organises  commercial diamond-like carbon coatings and other advanced manufacturing applications.

 

Professor Ian W Boyd,
Director, Professor of Materials Science

We are pleased to welcome new Chair in Materials Science, Professor Ian W Boyd, who joined ETCbrunel in October 2011 from the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication (MCN) in Australia, where he was the founding director.  He was previously Professor of Electronic Materials at University College London (UCL) and co-founder of the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN).

Ashley Howkins, Technician

Ashley Howkins has a background in biomaterials and biomedical Science and joined ETCbrunel in October 2011 as Electron Microscopy Technician, part of the expansion of imaging capability at the Centre.  This will continue in 2012 with a new state-of-the-art Transmission Electron Microscope facility.

Dr Robert Bulpett, Advanced Research Fellow (P/T)

Bob Bulpett is a chartered scientist, highly experienced in materials characterization and failure analysis.  Retiring from the Directorship in July 2011, he remains actively researching in areas such as shape memory alloys, and novel metallurgical processes.
